Keir Starmer has this morning resigned and as I have set out before I will be backing Andy Burnham for Labour Leader.

I was disappointed that the resignation speech contained some clear untruths, the party was financially in the best place it had been for years when Keir took over and it is now not.

We need to learn the lessons of the last two years and I would have expected more honesty about the actual moral and political bankruptcy that led to the rejection of many good Labour Candidates in the Local Elections last month.

I am in Parliament today continuing the work on behalf of my constituents which as always remains my priority.
