BBC Politics North

In case you missed Sunday’s politics show  we discussed Cash, Transport and of course Brexit…

The right to use cash is a huge issue in my constituency where people rely on cash to budget especially for low income families and where we also have a huge number of people who are digitally excluded.

Almost 90% of adults continue to use cash and many of those find it bewildering when finding out that in the UK there is no legal right to ensure their cash is accepted.

In my opinion cash is a legal tender and people should have to accept it.

Just yesterday I received emails about bus services and discussed the impact poor transport connections has on business.

The North East has had little to no investment in our transport for decades – as Chair of the NE APPG, transport is the top issue raised.

We need investment in our region to start to repair the damage and neglect of the Tory Government and we need to reopen the Leamside Line.

On Brexit of course we must be clear, it isn’t working for businesses large and small and it isn’t working for people – what we need is a reset with the relationship to make brexit work.

I’m pleased the prime minister is looking at ways to remove regulatory barriers to ensure our businesses can grow.

We need to remove the technical barriers to boost growth in the North East.
